A checklist for your headshot photography session
Before the Shoot:
Research & Book Photographer: Find a headshot photographer with experience in your desired style (acting, business, etc.) and good reviews. Discuss your goals and outfit ideas.
Define Your Look: Consider the purpose of the headshot and the image you want to portray (professional, friendly, approachable, etc.).
Wardrobe Selection: Choose 2-3 outfits with solid colors and flattering necklines. Avoid busy patterns, large logos and white unless discussed with the photographer. Ensure clothes fit well and make you feel confident.
Wardrobe Preparation: Make sure your outfits are cleaned, pressed and ready to go.
Hair & Makeup: Schedule a haircut/trim a few days beforehand. Decide if you'll do your own makeup (natural and flattering) or hire a professional. If applying makeup yourself, focus on enhancing features and bring touch-up products.
Skincare: Maintain a healthy skincare routine in the weeks leading up to the shoot. Drink plenty of water and get enough sleep.
Practice Poses: Stand tall with relaxed shoulders, maintain good posture.
Try Different Expressions: Your mirror is your friend.
The Day of the Shoot:
Get Enough Sleep: Look well-rested and energized for your shoot.
Eat Healthy: Avoid heavy meals beforehand, opt for something light and healthy.
Bring Water: Stay hydrated.
What to Bring: Your chosen outfits, pre-applied makeup, hairbrush/styling products and any specific accessories discussed with the photographer.
